What it is

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an integrative psychotherapy approach. It was developed by Francine Shapiro, and it has been widely researched as an approach to trauma.

It is a set of standardised steps that draws on elements from several different treatment approaches.

What it is typically used for

EMDR is most often used for the after-effects of trauma. It can also be used for panic attacks, complicated grief, disturbing memories, phobias, performance anxiety and stress.

What a session is like

You are asked to hold a memory in mind while following a side-to-side movement, sound or tap. We stop often, and I ask what you notice.

You do not have to describe everything that happened in detail.

Is it right for me?

How any one person responds to a therapy differs. You do not need to decide before you come. We would decide together at the first session.
