Who it is for
Subject choice. Learners choose the subjects they will take from Grade 10. Those subjects open some career paths and close others, so it helps to choose them with good information.
Career choice. Towards the middle of Grade 11, or at the beginning of matric, a learner can be assessed at a more advanced level to help with the choice of a career and of what to study.
What an assessment looks at
An assessment looks at ability, aptitude, interests, personality and the kind of work environment that suits a person.
The questionnaires used are well researched. The recommendations are based on what the learner finds out about themselves.
What happens
-
A parent or guardian phones the rooms to book.
-
The learner comes in and completes the assessment. Ask when you book how long to set aside.
-
The results are discussed with the learner and a parent in a feedback conversation.
What an assessment can and cannot do
An assessment informs a decision. It does not make the decision, and it does not determine anyone’s future. Interests change, and so do people.
When to book
Subject choices are usually made during Grade 9, and schools set their own dates. It helps to book well before the school’s deadline.
